Sweet Violets Oval, The White and the Purple, Gold

Two kinds of violet in one frame. The white-faced ones sit at the top, open and pale, their centres catching the light. Below them, the purple blossoms, deeper and fuller, leaves tucked in close. The oval holds both together the way the pattern always arranged them, mixed and informal, as though they grew that way. They did, really. That's the whole point of this flower.

The gold frame is long and slender, a narrow oval that lets the composition breathe without losing any of it. Warm against the white of the china. The bale sits neatly at the top, hand-formed and quietly finished.
